Concept
Founded in 2019 in Innsbruck, Austria, the company grew out as a project of its affiliate company Monophases. With the liberalisation and rise of the cannabinoids market, the challenge was to develop processes for the trade of raw materials such as hemp biomass, able to compensate the previously unclear and interpretable regulatory framework, the absence of clear rules for trade between EU states and the lack of customs codes required for imports to and from North America.
The beginning
In 2020 MPH trade imports Italian biomass to German and Polish extraction laboratories, establishing strict protocols for product inspection with certified certified European analytical laboratories. With the expertise of Gebrüder Weiss, a leading Austrian logistics company, a supply chain is created that included the use of escrow warehouses and cargo insurance services, despite the fact that the nature of the product was unknown in tariff tables at the time. Escrow contracts are created and, thanks to the services of AF Fiduciaria SpA, the first transactions on escrow account take place, adding anti-money laundering and anti-mafia protocols. In 2021, the first imports from North America to Switzerland take place, using commercial airliners for fast shipping and storage at warehouses with pharmaceutical standards for customs clearance of goods.
New...old commodities
With the launch in January 2022 of the distribution chain dedicated to hemp grain for the food and feed markets, MPH trade is taking on the challenge of operating in bigger industrial segments. It was in connection with the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine; when MPH trade's Eastern European farmers at the time decided to convert their hemp production to oilseed crops to meet the shortage of sunflower, most of which then came from the warring nations; that the company decided to expand its product portfolio to other oilseeds and cereals.
Identity
MPH trade aims to be one of the leading companies in hemp grain trading in the feed market and a recognised player in the food market. By continuously expanding its network of farms MPH trade can boast a comprehensive portfolio of raw materials. Despite operating in one of the oldest sectors in history, being born as a start-up in a new market, full of risks but with no pre-established rules; and thanks to the experience gained in building stable supply chains under critical conditions, MPH trade interprets geopolitical and technological evolutions as opportunities to evolve and create new services.
Forthcoming ambitions
In line with the roadmap designated in the articles of incorporation; Operating according to the principles of Sustainability and the Circular Economy; by 2026 MPH trade has the ambition to enrich its portfolio with agricultural raw materials grown on marginal land and reclaimed through phytoremediation or recycled from food crop residues, destined for the industrial markets of construction, automotive and renewable energy production.
